Describe Yourself:

I have ALS/Lou Gehrig's Disease, so I had to give up a teaching career, travel, and most of my friends and relationships with people who "don't know what to say", find my illness distasteful, don't want to think it could have been s/he, are suddenly "too busy", or any other hangup or excuse they might have conjured up to rationalize their distance. On the other hand, I have chosen to live with ALS, not prepare to die.

Fern,

Mom was born and raised in Thailand. Cooking is something she enjoys and loves doing. It's second-nature for her to whip up a Thai dish.

Also, my younger brother's aunts own a Thai restaurant in Stratford, CT, which is literally across the street from the Metro North train station. If you're ever so inclined, maybe I can meet you there some time. :) They always take good care of me when I go there!

Hey Fern, not sure what all your health aide does for you but she should not be bringing her negative mood into your home.

When she snaps, just say, "...I appreciate all you do and if there is anything I can do to help you have a good day, please let me know" and then just leave the area and leave her alone to think about your offer. She may not know how she comes across and it may not be her intention.

This opens the door to a friendly offer and also puts her on notice of her attitude.
